Your Personal Brand is the Key to Unlocking Endless Opportunities

In the latest episode of the Socially Ausome Podcast, I had the privilege of sitting down with Philip “Phenom” Robinson, a branding expert whose journey proves that a strong personal brand can open doors you never even knew existed.

From working with ESPN to writing multiple books, becoming a college instructor, and launching a creative agency, Phenom’s story is a masterclass in how branding isn’t just about your business—it’s about you.

Here’s why your personal brand is the ultimate game-changer and how to start building one that attracts life-changing opportunities.

“If they don’t know you, they can’t flow you.”

Phenom dropped this gem, summing up why personal branding is essential: “If people don’t know who you are, how can you expect them to support you?”

Your personal brand is the perception people have about you—how they see you, feel about you, and ultimately trust you. This isn’t just about fancy logos or curated Instagram feeds; it’s about showing up consistently as your authentic self.

Your ideal client doesn’t care about your business; they care about how you can solve their problems.

The Journey: Starting at only 14 Years Old

Phenom’s career started at just 14 years old, working with a minor league baseball production team. He didn’t know it at the time, but those early experiences laid the foundation for his passion for storytelling and branding.

As he said, “Every opportunity I’ve had came from how I presented myself, both in person and online.” His ability to build trust and showcase his unique value opened doors with major brands like ESPN and Apple, even when he wasn’t actively pursuing them.

Fear Will Always Be There, But So Will the Opportunities

One of the most relatable moments from our conversation was Phenom’s honesty about fear:
“I always have some sort of doubt. But one thing I remind myself is, if I’m in the room, I deserve to be there.”

That mindset—owning your space and believing in your value—is what helps you push past imposter syndrome and seize the opportunities that align with your brand.

It’s the perception people have of you when they think of your name

Here’s how he broke it down:

  1. Your Titles: What you do or the roles you hold (e.g., entrepreneur, educator, mom).

  2. Your Traits: How people describe you (e.g., energetic, transparent, driven).

  3. How You Make People Feel: Do they feel inspired, seen, or informed after interacting with you?

3 Tactical Steps to Build Your Personal Brand

Phenom shared three actionable steps anyone can take today:

  1. Conduct a Personal Brand Audit

Reach out to 30 people—friends, family, acquaintances—and ask them, “What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of me?” This will give you a clear picture of how you’re perceived and help you identify areas to refine.

  1. Define Your Core Values

Use a list of values (Google works!) to narrow down your top three. These are the principles your personal brand should always align with.

  1. Write Your Personal Mission Statement

Phenom’s mission is:

“To prepare the mindset of the community around me through education, dedication, and a self-disciplined work ethic.”

This simple statement keeps him aligned with his goals, no matter what opportunities come his way.

When you delay your brand, you’re taking away opportunities from someone who needs you.

Ignore the Fluff and Take Action

Phenom’s book, Ignore the Fluff, is a game-changer for anyone stuck in analysis paralysis. He explains how to cut through the noise, stop overthinking, and start executing. As he said, “I’m not here for 200-page books. I get straight to the point.

Why Your Personal Brand Outlasts Your Business

One of the most powerful takeaways from our chat was this: Your business can change, but your personal brand will evolve with you.

Phenom shared, “My mission statement keeps me grounded. Whether I’m speaking, writing, or teaching, I ask myself: Does this align with my values?” This clarity not only keeps him consistent but also attracts aligned opportunities.

Final Thoughts: Show Up, Tell Your Story, Build Your Brand

If you’re still wondering how to get started, let me remind you: “If they don’t know you, they can’t flow you.”

Take action today:

  • Conduct your brand audit.

  • Define your core values.

  • Start showing up consistently, even if it’s not perfect.

And remember, branding isn’t just about selling—it’s about serving and building trust. When you align your personal brand with your purpose, the right opportunities will find you.

I’ve hit $100k in sales in less than 6 months TWICE with two different offers.

I’m not a sales expert, just a mom who values freedom and found my content was the golden ticket. Before putting systems into my business - I was the system.

In 2022 I was at a successful job but couldn’t stay, decided to go all in and hit 6 figures in my first 6 months!

I was in the same boat as you, feeling frustrated and overwhelmed by the constant content creation.

I felt if I stepped away for a few hours it would all collapse…

“I’m not good enough”

“I don’t have what it takes”

“Success is only for others”

So, what was my breakthrough moment? It was the realization that success in content marketing isn’t about quantity—it’s about quality and strategy.

FUN FACT: AUSOME is spelled differently to encourage you to show up on social authentically and uniquely. Caiden, her middle child, is on the Autism Spectrum, and as an Autism family, they have learned to be unapologetically unique. It was the inspiration and push needed to start her journey in entrepreneurship.
