Our relationship with social media is a unique one. On one hand, it allows us to connect and engage with our audiences in ways that weren’t possible before. But on the other hand, it can become detrimental if you don’t set healthy boundaries.
As a social media guru, certified social media marketing expert, branding strategist, business strategist, high-performance coach, certified master coach, and all things social media, staying connected to our audiences is essential for success – but we also need to ensure that we maintain productive work habits that are beneficial for both ourselves and those we serve.
It is something that I tried to implement in 2023
Out of Boundaries
Just last year I haven’t set any boundaries on my business. It made me physically ill and a lot of those moments are by pleasing people. I was so afraid that if I set up a boundary, I would lose my business. I would lose a customer, which would lead to losing income for my family. Thus it means that I would go out of business tomorrow.
It’s hard to create those boundaries. Aside from my business. I also love keeping up with my friends and family, my customers, my clients, and my team. But it isn’t always a positive force in the world. Hence, I always try to keep my social media feed super positive. I only connect with positive people and the moment I see negativity or toxicity in my feed.
I also noticed how social media is becoming a problem in my household. It’s very easy to get sucked into the scroll hole. When our kids/family members need something from us. We get distracted by it and too many times we won’t be able to give our full attention to them. Especially when you do it for a living because you’ll always find an excuse of “I’m working.”
It also got to a point where I was responding to people so quickly that were inquiring about working with me. No matter where I am, my phone is always with me. People got used to that quick response time making them upset.
Keep in mind that you also have your own life that doesn’t just revolve around the business/social media. Setting those boundaries will hold you accountable. It will make you realize that this is an important piece of my life, an important piece of my business, but it’s not the most important thing in my life.
My time is important. It is valuable. My children and family deserve the most of me.

Set those boundaries!
One way to do this is by conducting a social audit every few months. This involves taking some time out of your day or month to review your social media profiles and evaluate how you’re using them. You can start by looking at your privacy settings, unfollowing accounts that no longer serve you, and decluttering your feeds from irrelevant content.
I highly believe in a social media strategy. By knowing what topics resonate with your followers, you can create content that appeals to them while also staying true to your brand voice. A well-planned social media strategy enables you to select the most appropriate platforms for sharing specific types of content, such as LinkedIn for professional networking or Instagram for visually-driven products or services. You will be able to identify which platform offers the best engagement rate from your audience.
My last piece of big advice is to take a break. In today’s digital world, we are constantly bombarded with social media notifications and messages that can be overwhelming. It is important to set boundaries on social media to reduce stress levels and improve mental well-being. One of the most effective ways to do this is by taking a break for yourself every week.
Taking a break from social media can help you disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with yourself. This time allows you to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without any distractions. It also allows you to engage in activities that bring you joy, such as reading a book or going for a walk.
Moreover, setting boundaries on social media helps you prioritize what matters most in your life. By taking time away from it each week, you can focus on building stronger relationships with friends and family members or pursuing hobbies and passions that make your life more fulfilling. Taking regular breaks from social media is essential for maintaining good mental health and finding balance in our increasingly digital lives.
